Great Basin & Southwestern Railroad
Look Ahead, Look Southwestern

Welcome to Mel's Great Basin & South Western Model Railroad. My model railroad is about 1960's and 1970's Railroading and how I understand that to be. There was still plenty of first and early second generation Locomotives running around back then as well as Train order Towers, Reefer Trains and old Heads from the days of Steam still working the Rails and Railroads that have sense faded into the pages of History.

I try to focus on 1st and early 2nd generation motive power and recreating some of the things I remember from the 1960's and 1970's when trackside.

The Layout runs very well as I've installed feeders going to each piece of track with either Tam Valley "Frog Juicers" or Tortoise Switch Motors powering all yard switch Frogs with more to come. The installation of Tortoise switch motors on all but 2 Mainline switch's has been completed.

The Great Basin & Southwestern Railroad is fed by 2 Interchanges, 4 Staging Tracks and a Branchline Railroad. All this brings in a lot of traffic for the GBSW to work. Couple this with run through Trains such as Passenger, Manifest, Intermodal or Unit Trains and it makes for a busy Railroad. For now I'm focusing only on the 3 Locals and 1 Yard Job that ply GBSW Rails for now but I'm working on a Perishable Extra, an Overnight Trailers, a Wayfreight and Unit Ore Train, all of which I hope to be integrated into my car forwarding scheme soon and all of which would bring and take away traffic for the GBSW. Stay Tuned!

For me it's about having Fun and enjoying other's camaraderie. It's a work in progress and I sure have a lot of fun with my Layout and I hope you will too.
